1. Why do you choose to work in recruitment?
It's more than just a job; it's a true passion of mine. There's an incredible sense of fulfillment that comes from guiding individuals towards not just any job but a career that harmonizes perfectly with their unique skills, ambitions, and long-term aspirations. The art of pairing the right candidate with the perfect job opportunity is what fuels my enthusiasm even after 10 years.
My journey into the world of recruitment felt like a natural progression for me. I've always had a knack for problem-solving, competitiveness and I wanted to be able to consult and collaborate with companies. Interestingly, during my college hockey years, I found myself naturally drawn to assisting in the recruitment of new student-athletes, though I hadn't realized at the time that it could lead to a career. After graduation, I ventured into teaching, reveling in the opportunity to be part of students' academic and personal growth.
Then, a few years down the road, fate brought me to Toronto and presented me with the chance to become a recruiter. It was a pivotal moment, and I can confidently say that I've never looked back since. The dynamic and rewarding world of recruitment has become my true calling.
2. What is the worst job you ever had OR the worst interview experience you ever had as a candidate?
I've been fortunate to have mostly positive work experiences throughout my career, but there's one job that stands out as a brief and memorable exception. It was my very first job, and it lasted only one evening, a grand total of 3.5 hours. In technical terms, I can proudly claim to have worked in the restaurant industry, though it was an experience I won't soon forget at 16 years old.
My role that evening was that of a busboy, and I was paired up with a server who certainly made an impression, though not a positive one. This server was a character, to say the least. She carried an air of arrogance and condescension that was hard to ignore. Right from the start, it was clear that this was going to be an eventful night. She barked orders, belittled fellow staff members including myself even though I was new. To make it worse, she only marked me down for 2.5 hours and I am still waiting to this day to get paid $7.50. Apparently, I wasn’t good enough to get a call back ☹
3. Favourite activity outside of work?
Golf, hockey and any DIY projects that keeps my mind occupied. Oh, and did I mention golf? I really like golf.
4. Favourite animal and why.
Dogs! They are intelligent & affectionate, and the bond I have formed with my dog Oliver is something I’ve never had with any other animal.
5. Favourite band/singer/genre of music.
Electronic music
6. Cilantro: Yay or Nay?
Nay … it’s soap in a plant form.
