MT Talent is happy to partner with a leading insurance provider to source a dynamic Accounting Supervisor for a newly created position with an award-winning company that is the result of considerable growth over the past 5 years. Reporting to the Controller, the Supervisor will directly support, coach and oversee the work of 3 Accounting staff members.  We are seeking an experienced Accounting professional with strong generalized experience across all functions, but specific expertise in budgeting, reporting, and strategic projects will make you stand out in this role.

What Will You Do?
  
  • Lead the development and maintenance of departmental budgets by collaborating with department leaders.
  • Oversee the preparation and first-level review of financial statements, journal entries, SG&A reconciliations, and working papers.
  • Perform monthly variance analysis to identify root causes of discrepancies, inform department leaders, and support process improvements to mitigate future discrepancies.
  • Supervise the accounts payable process, ensure timely vendor payments, and manage the internal SG&A invoice process.
  • Lead accounting functions for holding companies and the company’s Foundation, including transaction posting, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
  • Ensure accurate transaction processing, ledger balancing, and compliance with internal controls, accounting standards and legal requirements.
  • Oversee multiple accounting inboxes to ensure efficient and accurate communication and issue routing.
  • Lead and mentor the Accounting team, including assigning tasks, supporting ongoing professional development of team members, and ensuring best practices, deadlines, and deliverables are met by the team.
  • Lead the development and enhancement of a sustainable AP module that creates efficiencies and promotes cost savings.
  • Lead the consolidation and submission of quarterly reporting for Board and others, including financial statements and cash flow summaries.
  • Act as the senior audit lead for SG&A-related tasks (excluding payroll), manage audit adjustments, and liaise with external auditors during the annual audit process.
  • Oversee annual reconciliation and disbursement of Contingent Profit Commissions and support related monthly accruals.
What Do You Bring?
   
  
  • Post-secondary degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field is required along with a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or actively working towards.
  • 5 or more years of progressive experience in corporate Finance and Accounting .
  • Experience directly managing or coaching junior to intermediate level Accounting and Finance staff.
  • Experience with IT implementations and continuous improvement projects is a strong asset.
  • Strong computer and tech skills, including MS Office Suite (advanced Excel) and current accounting software.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with a proven ability to work with multiple stakeholders professionally and confidently.

  • Exceptional ability to meet defined deadlines and produce high quality, accurate work.
  • Highly organized with a strong ability to prioritize tasks to support corporate goals.
