Position Overview:
As a Distribution Centre Supervisor
, you will take a hands-on
leadership role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the distribution centre, with a focus on efficiency, accuracy, and team development. You will be responsible for supervising inbound and outbound workflows, leading process improvement initiatives, managing staff performance, and ensuring a safe, productive, and well-organized environment. This position is critical in supporting the Distribution Centre Manager and ensuring operational excellence across all areas of the warehouse.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Oversight – Inbound & Outbound
- Supervise all aspects of receiving, picking, packing, shipping, and routing activities to ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment.
- Monitor and coordinate daily workflow to optimize productivity and eliminate bottlenecks.
- Validate inventory accuracy and ensure the proper handling, put-away, and replenishment of all materials.
- Oversee and support the processing of Return Merchandise Authorizations (RMAs) in coordination with customer service.
- For second shift operations, ensure the nightly loading of company trucks is completed accurately and efficiently, as directed by the Distribution Centre Coordinator and Distribution Centre Manager.
- Lead, coach, and mentor warehouse staff to achieve individual and team performance targets.
- Conduct regular team huddles, training sessions, and 1-on-1 performance discussions.
- Foster a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement.
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, and cross-training team members to build a flexible and capable workforce.
- Provide ongoing feedback and input into performance reviews and coaching conversations.
- Collaborate closely with the Distribution Centre Coordinator to assist with daily routing and scheduling of the company fleet (7 trucks).
- Support staff allocation, ensuring the right resources are aligned to meet shipping deadlines and workload demands.
- Provide input on route optimization and driver dispatch planning to maximize delivery efficiency.
- Step in to support coordination efforts during high-volume periods or absences.
- Collaborate with the Distribution Centre Manager to analyze operational metrics and identify improvement opportunities.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to accuracy, productivity, and workflow efficiency.
- Implement best practices and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to maintain high operational standards.
- Assist with developing and tracking KPIs related to order accuracy, on-time shipping, inventory control, and labor utilization.
- Enforce compliance with health and safety standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Proactively identify and address safety risks, reporting incidents and near-misses in a timely manner.
- Conduct routine safety inspections and promote a strong safety culture among the team.
- Act as a key point of contact for cross-functional teams including transportation, customer service, and procurement.
- Ensure clear communication and alignment between shifts and departments.
- Address escalations or operational issues in real-time to minimize impact on service levels.
- Work collaboratively with internal departments and delivery drivers to ensure a seamless experience for our customers.
- At least 2 years of experience in warehouse or distribution operations, with supervisory or team leadership responsibilities.
- Proven experience in both inbound and outbound logistics environments.
- Experience supporting fleet scheduling, routing, or dispatching is a strong asset.
- Strong understanding of warehouse systems, inventory control processes, and performance metrics.
- Familiarity with RF scanners, pallet jacks, sit-down counterbalance forklifts, reach trucks, or order pickers is an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (very good command of Excel is essential) and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
- Excellent leadership, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong emotional intelligence with the ability to lead through influence, resolve conflict constructively, and support a positive team culture.
- Ability to prioritize, problem-solve, and lead in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
- Forklift certification and at least 2 years of experience operating a forklift is required.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
